I have had my SP2 for a few weeks now, making a big step up from mostly mid-fi NAD eq. I seem to be missing something. Its very quiet, detailed, transparent, refined, etc. but I find the sound very dry, cold, clinical sounding, no life to the music, I just don't enjoy it. How long does it take to break in a new pre-amp? would different cables help? System: Simaudio W-3 amp/NAD cdp & pw.amps. MonitorAudio spks. Tara labs/Wireworld/Atlas/Gutwire cables.
Cheers.

How is your system hooked up?  Are you running the NAD cdp thru an analog input in 2 ch bypass?

I figured you are using the 2ch By-pass mode and NAD CDp via analog output.  If this is correct, you are listening to your NAD CDp's sonic qualitites mentioned as being

...  Try a different source. I asure you things will change.

Yes. NAD cdp to 2 ch bypass, Pioneer Elite dvd using digital connection. All sources sound hard, cold compared to before with NAD receiver as pre-amp. My system sounded very smooth & dynamic when I added the Sim W-3. The NAD was in the repair shop more than at home, so it had to go. I thought the SP2 would complement the Sim for a nice 2 ch set up with HT included. A new cdp is next on the list, until then how long should I wait for the SP2 to settle in? When to start trying new source/cables etc. I want to like it, I really really do!

I am happy to let you know that the SP2s are already broken in from the factory.

How was Dolby Digital and DTS movie experience?

Enjoy!

Just a follow up re. my new SP2, it takes approx. 200 hrs. of break in time to smooth off the rough edges. I also have tried some isolation blocks under  the pre-amp which seems to help. So please be patient all new SP2 owners out there.javascript:emoticon(':)')
