It has been a little over a year since I sold the Maestros to a dear friend in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Since then, I have had several different subwoofers in our system, the closest to matching the Maestro being the Velodyne DD-18.
I just got confirmation from Mike Dzurko that twin Maestro XL's are ready to be built in the Cherry finish. The order has been placed.
Now, I need to sweat out waiting and hoping that the new XL's live up to the Maestro name.
On a very sad note, I had sold the original units to the above mentioned friend. He is the type of man to whom I have a hard time saying "no". The reason for this is because of what kind of man he is.
He and his wife have the most adorable 6 year old little girl. This young lady was born with a severe spinal disorder. When ever he and his wife would visit, they would bring this special little girl along, and his devotion to her was remarkable. Her parents did not go out without her, EVER, as there was no baby sitter type of service available to take care of her. Home Theater was their social outlet. So, when he asked me for the Maestros, there was no way of even thinking of saying "no".
He would often send notes about that latest movie they watched together, or music listened to. Their system was literally a way for her to communicate with Mom and Dad, as she could not speak. When she liked the music, or the movie, she just beamed with happiness.
I just received word that, after fighting a 6 year battle, the little girl has passed. While she will be missed more than words can say, she is also finally at peace. Events like this always make one pause, and think about how trivial our hobbies are. At the same time, it is gratifying to know that this hobby was such a source of happiness for this little girl.
Micah, you will be missed. That being said, everyone who knew you knew what a big heart you had, and also knows you are in heaven, finally running and talking up a storm. God Bless you. I know Mom and Dad feel blessed to have had you for those wonderful 6 years.
