I got myself a HagUSB to feed my DAC in hopes that it would improve the sound quality versus an Audigy 2zs optical out.  Well it does and it is clearly better.  Using my PC as a transport I now get close to the same performance I get using my Arcam CDP as transport.  When I was using the Audigy with a cheap optical cable, the performance was not great, I was always using my CDP because music was congested and felt dead.  Now with the HagUSB and an ordinary coax RCA cable, the performance is pretty good, still not quite the level of my CDP transport but close.

Now, maybe I can lift the performance a little more if I can ever manage to setup ASIO4ALL and Foobar!  I tried to follow Jim's instructions:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=24878&highlight=asio+foobar

but the link in the 3rd step does not work anymore!  So I followed the instruction on AQVOX web page:

http://www.aqvox.de/Asio-USB-Audio-installation-e.htm

and for some reason the ASIO4ALL does not appear in Foobar preferences.  ASIO4ALL Off-line settings are fine and I see the USB device but in Foobar I don't see ASIO4ALL in the preferences/playback/output menu.

Any advice?

Thanks.

I do not know if you noticed, but the complete link is not active.  Copy all of it into the URL search of your browser and see if it gets you your download of the dll.  As you see I went ahead and did this.  It takes you to a web site where you have to go down a few steps to get to the downloadable file.  Or you can copy the following text into the google language translator and select Japanese language to get a translation of this page.

http://otachan.com/foo_output_asio(dll).html

Note that the "(dll).html" is inactive due to the format not being normal HTML and the editor does not see it as it should.

This site can give your some additional information and it also has a forum for information.

Well, I was finally able to get that foo_output_asio.dll file in the right directory  but now when I start Foobar I get the following message:

********************************************
Failed to load DLL: foo_output_asio.dll
Reason: Wrong version number; this component appears to have been built with outdated version of foobar2000 SDK and needs to be recompiled with newer version in order to load; please contact author of this component to obtain an updated version of this component.

This Asio is a pain in the b...!  haha

I'll try to post questions in the asio4all forum.  There should be some experts there!

I think the latest build to Foobar2000 takes care of this problem.  Version 0.9 had an incompatablity with ASIO but a later one, I think 0.9.1 took care of this.  Check out http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php concerning this problem.  Many people did not upgrade to 0.9 because of this issue.

Another link:

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=44223&hl=asio#

Foobar change log says ASIO is a separate download and it was fixed on 0.9.1.
