Recommended Recordings for VMPS RM40s?
« on: 8 May 2006, 05:54 am »
To all RM40 owners,

I am having some people over this weekend to listen to my speakers.  Some of my recordings for the demo will be:

1) Norah Jones  Come away with Me
2) Handel Messiah Alleulia Chorus (with Sir Thomas Beecham conducting)
3) The 4th movement of Mahler's 4th symphony (Sir Georg Solti CSO)
4) Dire Straits  On Every Street

Please feel free to suggest other recordings that you would use  :)

Thanks,

John

Man LW, ya got me on that one.  I had to go slap the Telarc Collection in the CDP and get it out of my system, once you "planted" it there.

Great and extremely dynamic cut.  It is musically stirring and emotionally involving (if you like classical music)

The Huge Gong, and Slam of the Kettle Drums, as well as the HOT BRASS brigade (trumpets, Trombones, Tubas, French Horns, and all, each instrument or section, well imaged in their proper orchestral position on the soundstage) is a sonic thrill.

Good Call

Good Call ...
    Thanks John..... [/list:u]
John...I feel if you can get "Fanfare" to sound good in your system, then your set. Must sound really good in yours....with those subs !!!!  :hyper: [/list:u]
As I said...."Fanfare" is a  good starting point.   [/list:u]
          You could follow it with
track 8...Blackbird......a really big contrast. Give it a listen... [/list:u]
    I heard "Blackbird" at RMAF '06...someone was playing it in the MBL room. I didn't know who it was....then I found out....Bernadette Peters.... :o  :o  :o [/list:u]
      Chris[/list:u]

I read recently that "Hans Zimmer, The Da-vinci Code soundtrack" is suppose to be an amazing test CD with unreal and "scary" dynamics throughout the entire audio range.    I think that about spells out a formula for a good RM40 test CD.

Here is an article attesting to the scariness of the music. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/05/07/ncode07.xml&sSheet=/news/2006/05/07/ixhome.html
Darn it they toned it down.  I hope the original version is available for purchase in DVDs.

To all RM40 owners,

I am having some people over this weekend to listen to my speakers.  Some of my recordings for the demo will be:

4) Dire Straits  On Every Street

Glad to see someone else noticed that recording.  I was absolutely blown away by how good that album sounded from the bombast of "Calling Elvis" and "Heavy Fuel" to the blues of "Planet of New Orleans" to the solo acoustic guitar on "Iron Hand".  An excellent mix of material.

I'd also recommend some good "bass" player music to show just how well these speakers render bass detail even without a sub.  This isn't to be confused with bass heavy music, I'm refering to quality and not quantity.

Alain Caron - 5 (French Canadian bass maestro)
Tetsuo Sakurai - Gentle Hearts (w/ Dennis Chambers and Greg Howe)

Try the Verve Pipe "Freshmen"
It has good imaging, and awesome dynamics.

To everyone who gave advice,

Thank for the recommendations.  Looks like I will be purchasing some additional CDs in the not too distant future.

Thank you,
