HT2 kits finally finished
« on: 4 May 2006, 11:40 pm »
Greetings from Palm Bay, FL folks. I am sitting here listening the HT2 speakers that I finally got finsihed and thought I would jot a word or two down about them.

First and foremost, kudos to Al at RAW for being such a nice guy, and making doing business with him so easy. I can tell you this, he his a very knowledgable guy who has had great patience with me here, thanks Al. He has put together some fantastic kits here at great prices and the customer service cannot be beat.

As for the kits, all I can say is WOW. I mean you get CNC'd baffles, high grade cross-over parts, basically everythign one guy needs to put together a great sounding speaker, minus the rest of the box. Shoot, they even come with the awesome grills that are magnetically held in place...very nice indeed.

As far as the HT2 speakers go, awesome. I love the CSS widerange drivers abilities and clarities in the midrange regions and the AC tweet is simply delightful. I had intended on building these and then giving them away to another DIYer to get a chance to play with and listen to. Welps, that is NOT gonna happen, these are mine now.

I was running them sealed, and Al had suggested I go ahead and port them just to give them alisten that way. I did, and all I can say is wow, now I know why most who build these and any of the speakers using the WR drivers port them. I have my 1804 IB subwoofer currently unplugged and the HT2s are doing just fine on their own thank you.

Sure there's a few songs in my arsenal that tend to have a bit too much for htem on the low end, but for the most part, I think they cover instruments and probably 90% of the music out there quite well.

The imaging and clarity of the tweeters is simply amazing.  They will definately let you know if your recording is not up to par...hehe. Listening to my usual Junior Brown, Willie Nelson, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, and several others on these speakers the last several days, simply put...has been a pleasure.

Everyone who has had a chance to listen has had nothing but smiles about them. This is a good thing people.

As mentioned before, at first when building them I was concerned about the number of cross-over parts but in the end, I would have to say I think Al nailed it. Sure, I would still like to hear them in an active setting, but until I can get the electronics to do so, they are wonderful just as they are.

Ok, so it's all been raving and good so far, and you are wondering...is there anything worng with them el Noido? Well if I had to complain about anything, in the ported boxes they tend to have almost too much bass for me, almost sounding liek someone has an EQ bumped down there maybe. I will likely return them to their sealed state and let the big-dog handle the low end. Maybe play with stuffing the ports a bit and see what that does for me.

Al, once again I apologize for the length of time it has taken me to get these babies done, thanks for your patience.

I will be carting htem over to the beachside here next week sometime to Jim's place and listen to them in his setting powered with is Macintosh tube set-ups and I will have drop in here and let you know what he thinks as well. Plus I hope to have my Foreplay preamp and LM4780 amp combo up and running here before long and will comment then on HT2s as well so stay tuned...

Nice, interesting sub - Apex Jr Super8's?

Times 4, to get a 4 ohm load I assume?

Sealed?

Sharing the same space, or individual spaces within that tube?

What sub amp?

Any bass boost on that sub amp?

Glad to hear the HT2's worked out well, I have set on loan right now, pending a gathering this Sunday, they are good...
