Check the pcb in your dac to make sure you got the DAC 60 board with the BB PCM1704 chip.  I replaced the pcb this weekend and upon close inspection, I discovered that my dac originally contained the pcb for the DAC 72, not the DAC 60 I paid for!

I have forwarded this to the manufacturer requesting a response.

Not sure about this but I had the lid off my DAC 60 to replace the tubes.
Are the DAC's a couple of little dinky flat things that are just behind the tubes and are kind of surround by tall cylinders?
They do say 1704 0n the two of them but I'm not sure if that is what I should be looking for.

                                            Cheers

Tall cylinders  .  Those are the capacitors.  You are correct Charlie, you should have 2 PCM1704 and one DF1704.

We roll the dice when purchasing from the far East.  Great values, but there are drawbacks as in this case.  The Chinese products provide audiophiles with Walmart like value products.

MarkM:
If I get the lid off again I'll look for a DF1704. The writing on those things is so small that I have a very hard time reading them. Don't think I'll be taking the lid off anytime soon. Sometimes all this tech investigation opens a big can of worms. Best to leave things alone. No complaints about the DAC. I bought a pair of Amperex USN 6922 D-getter tubes from sam1104 on Audiogon and I'm very, very, very pleased with the results.

                                                          Cheers

I may take a look this weekend, just to see what there is to see... :D

I don't know this thing sounds great (not fully broken in) to me so far.

The boards are very easy to identify.  The DAC72 board is green, the DAC60 board is blue.

Trust me the dac makes a big difference.  I could tell immediately after installing the correct board.

My DAC-60 board is green in color and has BB PCM1704 chips.

All the pictures I have found show the DAC-60 with a green board.

Are you sure it is not the DAC-72 that has a blue board?

Oh my God I can't believe what I saw when I opened this thing up.... :o

What great craftsmenship..... :D   Oh yeah and all the right parts just as I suspected.  No kidding without knowing what caps to look for you wouldn't even know this thing was modded... Great job

Oh yeah and this thing sounds great to boot.... :guitar:

Now to locate some tubes to roll..

Oh yeah, green board DAC 60 printed... One curious thing though, it did have a chip U10 that was marked as a DAC68 chip.  Which if I'm not mistaken is a model up from the 60.... :?

The DAC60 board I received was blue with the 1704chips.  The original, DAC72 board was green with the 1702 chips.  Both boards are labelled as either DAC72 or DAC60.  Weird!!
