Bryston 9B vs 875HT ?
« on: 7 Apr 2006, 07:58 pm »
Hi,

As a beginner at this forum, I thought I kick-off by asking something I have been spending some time figuring out: Which multichannel amplifier is "the best".

I'm planing to use a Bryston SP2, and I'm 50/50 music/video. Speakers are in this case not importent since they are 12Ohm surround speakers.

So we are talking about surround speaker amplification, 4 channels only. My choices are:
1) 9B SST 4-channel (or 5-channel, and not use the fifth)
2) 875HT and bridge all channels

It's obvous that the 875 will offer more in numbers, but any ideas which one would be prefered ? The price here where I live is more or less the same (5-channel 9B that is vs 875HT).

And while I'm asking: 9B, 4 or 5 channel version ? The fifth channel may never be used, but I figure the 2nd hand value might be better ?

Strange, so many opions on different subjects, but not on this one...

Considering that I'm about to get a new processor and three amps (two 14B or something close to that in performance, and a multichannel amp) makes me wonder why I should continue looking into Bryston. Never mind that there is NO represant in Sweden where I live which makes it totaly impossible to audition anything. I would have to buy everything and take all the risc myself...

Well strange anyway - I'll look on my other options...

Between options 1 & 2, go for the 1) 9B SST.
