I have tried Adcom GFA555 II, CJ MFC200, Innersound ESL300 II, Crown K2 and eAR1001 on the woofers on my RM40s.  Innersound was the best but it got sucked into another duty.  eAR 1001s are doing a great job now.  K2 is not as good in coloration of voices.  Innersound was the best for that but eAR is not bad in that and has more thump.

Here is probably just about a perfect solution to biamping....considering the price goal.  Built a four sided box out of plywood, drop the amp on it and set behind the speakers.  Viola!

John: I'll let you know what I think of the Rotel. I've also got a Conrad Johnson Sonographe SA 400 coming that will also be here next week.  The CJ is a little more expensive by 100 bucks but there's no telling which will work better til I try.

The Rotel will have more gain than the amp I'm going to use on the upper range. The CJ will be the same. It will take time to get things set up properly to do a fair comparison.  I use a Behringer DEQ 2496 so I can compensate for the gain difference.
