Plast-i-clay, Soundcoat for cabinet damping?
« on: 5 Mar 2006, 01:59 am »
Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you have compared plast-i-clay or any of the various commercial treatements such as Soundcoat or Blackhole5 against each other for speaker cabinet damping?

I'm biased in favor of trying plast-i-clay first purely on cost considerations, but if any of the other types are more effective it would be nice to know.

I have plast-i-clayed several speakers over the years and find that the difference between treated and untreated is major. I doubt the difference between plasticlay and the commercial treatment would be.

I found Plast-i-Clay to be better inside speakers than bitumen and vinyl pads I bought at Parts Express (by far)...don't know about the more exotic stuff like BlackHole.

I've mentioned Plast-i-Clay in speakers lots of times here at AC (others have, too)...here's one of them I found:

I was reading about Quietcar, a paint-on dampner, and plan to test it soon. :shh:
