125W and 130W amps in your price range - the 5 or 10W shortfall would not be noticeable.  I rather like the at OmegaStar 240EX Amplifier at $899.

Connect it directly to a modded SB2/3 and watch out

Any of the NAD range should fit your budget

I have the NAD C372 integrated amp (150 W min @ 8 or 4 ohms, 305 W dynamic into 4 ohms, 450 W dynamic into 2 ohms).  Most authorized dealers give a reasonable discount of the the suggested retail price of $900.  It sounds excellent and should be able to drive just about any reasonable speaker.

I second the vote for the 240EX. They're well-built, well-designed, are very neutral, and the price is low. They're pretty much unbreakable in normal use too.
