FYI, pretty much settling on this new logo for the HagLabs subsidiary.

Twisted it around to make it more unique and promote things I like.  For one, it's in lowercase, which I think I'll use on product silkscreens (I've been a fan ever since I learned "C" programming in '83).  Of course it sort of looks like a tube, made from "h-a-l" letters.  It is also configured such that it can not only be engraved, but used as an extrusion (heat sink) or cutout (ventilation).  That's why the "a" was changed.

jh :)

Very clever to incorporate the initials into it in a manner to make it so useable.  The heat sink idea is especially intriguing to me.  I got a better impression of it after making it larger, easier to see the letters on this little laptop screen.  Congrats and good luck with the new line.

But why should it have to look like a tube?  It just needs to represent one.  No?

Besides, there are tubes with that shape and proportion.  I just don't use them in my products.

2. "But why should it have to look like a tube? It just needs to represent one. No?

dude, this is semantics. representing and looking like are so similar as to be the same.

i was just following up and making it look more like a tube. Like a 12au7, which you do use, not like a radio tube, which the first design resembles.

the original design is cramped. It is actually easier to make out the letters in my change and the tube representation is more discernable.

Elegance is always desirable in a logo, but not at the expense of being able to tell what it is.

I was never so good at words - I meant that it doesn't have to be a true-to-life recreation.  Like a good sketch or photo.

In fact, I purposely squashed it and made the lettering not so obvious.  Didn't want the letters to stand out.  Prefer them slightly hidden.

It's a logo.  There is no right or wrong answer, just different tastes.

now i see - i have never had a problem with cryptic!

I really like the on/off switches that are displayed as 1 or 0, or inputs designated at i, ii, iii.

a daunting interface keeps the relatives hands away.  :D
