Finally finished my pair of 2641s that Kfr01 and I began building about 6 months ago.
You can see the review of his pair here
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=23298&highlight= for more details about music/soundstage/etc and all the 2-ch details that I'm not really into. I mostly wanted to post pictures as a sort of cathartic "Thank God this project is buried" type of therapy.
The only real difference between our speakers is he finished his with a 45 degree bevel on his front baffle and covered with laminate, whereas I used the black ash vinyl from Partsexpress. Also, his xovers are external while mine are installed inside the port chamber.
My initial impressions are the same as when I heard his several months ago: great vocals and impressive bass. The speakers really are awesome. Kfr01 built them because he loves 2-ch, I built them because I love movies. We're both very pleased with how they perform in both areas. I'm not going to blather on about the sound, but suffice it to say I think anyone who builds these would not be disappointed. I plan on keeping them for a very long time.
This was my first DIY project. In the end, the results are great. Was it worth it? Probably not in the sense that I don't have this kind of time to build cabinets. In the future I would have someone else do a better job for me and just foot the bill. Assuming I had done that, however, and spent the $1800 to ship a finished pair, I think the value of this kit/finished speaker is still very high compared to what $1800 buys you in terms of a retail product. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
The kit itself was well packaged and organized. It was, however, a bit short on wiring. We had to supplement the internal wiring pretty substantially. I have to say that the exodus binding posts are fantastic. They're huge, solid and very easy to install.
I'm using a pioneer 1014 to drive these and the results are great. Have only listened to a few cds and watched the Walk the Line DVD, but am very happy with things so far. I'll update later when I've had a chance to put them through their paces with a few action movies, which is what I built them for.
