I am taking in a pair of Coincident  Victory speakers and don't have an amp for them as of yet. They are super efficient at 97db  , and quite revealing. I am looking for tube or warmer sounding solid state mono blocks for them. My settup requires mono block amps.

There is a real nice pair ( dealer pair ) Cary 805c Monos with western Electric 300b tubes on Audiogon. These are a great sounding pair of amps. I remember demo-ing a pair of them with some very efficient spearkers awhile back and they did sound very, very good .Plenty of power and have the nice warm earthy sound that should mate very well with your new speakers....

Hi,

Congratulation on your new speaker :D

As for amps here is my recommendation. If you can live with 7-8 watts than this could be the amp for you.

and here is a pimped version

Cheaper if you are handy with soldering iron.

Well, I must say that I'm a bit biased when it come to my recommendation, because I have been using a pair of Welborne Labs "Apollo 1.5" for a little over 5 years now.

Sadly my 18w/ch SET monoblocks based on KR Audio tube are no longer available

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I would highly recommend 50w monoblocks by Dodd Audio.

I don't know what your budget is, but the Coincident line is made for OTL's what with their high efficiency and impedance.  That said, any of the Atma-sphere line-up would match up well.  As a matter of fact, I'm going to get a listen to the Total Victory 2's next week and I would be driving them with Atma-Sphere MA2 Mk2.3's.  The AS amps are oh so transparent and fast.

Another vote for Atma-Sphere, although I think with 97db speakers a pair of M60's would be more than enough. Once you go OTL, you'll never go back.

I have owned Atma-Sphere M60's, and several SET amps.
I have also owned several pair of Coincident loudspeakers.

Your tastes and priorities in sound reproduction will determine your amp choice.  For speed, detail and utmost transparency, the M60's will certainly deliver.   Their 60wpc will be more than enough on the Victories.

An SET amp will typically give a fuller and more involving sound that is slightly more relaxed and characterized by harmonic richness, warmth, and "rightness".  At least to my ears.   I have a soft spot for SET.  In this category, I have owned a few 300B amps and an 845 amp.  I prefer the 845 tube.  More balanced top to bottom than the 300B, with just about the same midrange seduction, but much more dynamic and impactful.  You might wanna look into the ASL  AQ1006-845.  Very reasonably priced on the used market.  Don't be fooled by the 22wpc.  This is a very robust amp and I am sure it will make the Victories sing.  I have owned it for several years, and like it very much.  It has successfully driven several speakers in the 90 - 94 db. efficiency range.  The bigger brother AQ1009 at 50wpc is reported to be even better.

Don't forget that the M60's gobble tons of juice.  They can also really heat a room.  In my NYC apt with not the best a/c, they raised room temps by almost 10 degrees in the summer.  Two of the main reasons I sold 'em.

I own the Dodd 120's and they are very good.  If the pedigree holds, I'm sure the Dodd 50's are nice as well.  Lots of really nice amps out there in the 50wpc and under range.  It's a nice place to be shopping as you can spend your money on sweetness, refinement and finesse, rather than oooomph.

Good luck in your search!

Hi,
I know exactly what you mean  That is the price we pay for having tube amps/pres :? I run a/c in summer while lisenting and the electic bill could get quite high during the Summer months  I do my best to save electricity the other ways to make it up. But! on the positive side... they do keep me nice and warm in winter :D

Oh! btw you have a very nice cozy listening room :D And those Dodd look sweet!  :P

Take care,

I like to think that the extra warmth in winter cancels out the excessive heat in summer but  that's probably wishful thinking.

Hello,
I have not heard these but came across them the other day while touring around A'Gon,  www.mcalsiteraudio.com The 30ESM in monoblock config seem worth looking into.
If my space tech lab amp ever gives up (probably never will) then I will look  at space tech lab again and this direction too. Coincidents love tubes.
Have Fun
