Sig 30 & Omega Speakers?
« on: 13 Oct 2006, 02:14 am »
Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of friends who are totally remodelling their brownstone and they've asked me for suggestions for an audio system.

As a former salesman at a high end salon in Manhattan, there are a couple of "go to" components from several mainstream manufacturer that I could recommend to them. These would sound very musical but wouldn't, IMO, capture that last bit of drama and emotion that I've been able to wring out of my own DIY and modified system.

After experimenting heavily with the original Sonic Impact T-amp and considering that their budget is not unlimited, I'm convinced that the Sig 30 paired with the right speaker would come much closer to bringing them sonic bliss (plus I really admire Vinny's character and ethics and would mind throwing some business his way!).

My question is, has anyone tried the Sig 30 with Omega speakers and been truly satisfied with the results? I've read about folks pairing the Clari-T with Omegas with good results, but I haven't heard of anyone trying the Sig 30/Omega combo (maybe I haven't looked hard enough). I suspect that it would be a good combination.

Alternately, if anyone has tired the Sig 30 with another sensitive speaker in the Omega's price range and has been truly satisfied, I would surely look into that, too.

The space that they're occupying is something like 17' x 40' (they'll be listening to a stereo at one side with speakers facing the shorter dimension and setting up a HT setup on the other side of the 40'), so I suspect they would need one of the larger Omega speakers.

Any insight into the Sig 30/Omega pairing would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
KT

In a thread on affordable amps for Omega's, Louis said for SS Sig 30 is his only choice.

:D  I have the RWA Signature 6 (which is a Dual Mono Clari-T with Paper In Oil Caps.  It is also in a maple case made by Louis of Omega).  The speakers I am using are the Omega Revolutions (Floor Standing Single Driver Visaton B200 Drivers)  The combination above all else is musical.  Beautiful tone, wonderful pace rhythm and timing.  The Signature 30 would only be more of the same.

KT,

I recently took delivery of a Sig 30 and a modded Olive Symphony from Vinnie (both running on battery power). I have a battery-powered Ack Dack! also. I am also breaking in a pair of MaxHemps from Omega. The Omegas are just beginning to fill in after about 200hrs of intensive exercise. In the interim I have heard the Sig 30 power a pair of KEF Reference 250s and I think the Omegas sound better than the KEFs already. The detail is three dimensional to an extent I have never heard before. i really had no idea that speakers could do this (and they aren't totally broken in yet!).

My dedicated listening room is much smaller (13 x18ft) than the room you describe but I doubt whether I am past the 20 or 25 percent mark on the Sig 30 attenuator so there is plenty of scope for additional volume.

I have to admit I am more into content (mainly rock-everything from Nuggets to the spawn of Children of Nuggets, if you know what I mean) than the delivery system but I am very satisfied with this hardware configuration.

Not only is the equipment good the customer service from both Louis and Vinnie is truly exceptional - check out the their forums for numerous testimonials.

I hope this helps.

Hi KT,

Thank you for your post.

For a 17' x 40' space, I wouldn't suggest any Omegas except for the Max Hemps or Revolutions if you are looking for a big sound.

They are the same dimensions (floor standers) and both use an 8" full range driver, but the Max Hemp is a bass-reflex speaker (rear ported) and the Revolution is a sealed-box with aperiodic venting on the rear.  A picture of each can be found here:

and we all know that Louis really needs to make a formal webpage for each design     He has been selling many pairs of each just on word of mouth and very pleased customer testimonials on the circles here.

The Max Hemp uses Louis' custom 8" hemp full range driver and the Revolutions use the Visaton B200, but Louis is also working on a high Qts 8" hemp driver that will replace the B200.  I can't wait for that to come out!

The Signature 30 is a really nice match with these speakers and I've heard it for myself.  Louis owns one as well and prefers it to his tube amps that he owns  :green:

Thanks for your kindness and if you decide to go with RWA, I am committed to making sure that you are 100% satisified with not only my products, but my customer service.   If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email or call.

Hi ZLS and bgavinski,

Thanks for your posts and I'm glad you are enjoying your equipment and music!

Best regards,
