Monitor Audio; timber matching RS-LCr
« on: 8 Feb 2006, 06:38 pm »
:o   I have a Monitor Audio RS-LCr that I purchased from a guy on AudioGon.  I will receive it on Trursday, 1/9/06.  Now I need a pair of front speakers, providing I like the sound of this center.  I was told, by two trusted friends who have sold these for a living, that I would like them.

Problem: I have never listened to Monitor Audio.  I do not have a dealer
. No one knows which older line(s) will work with the new RS series.  The RS line has just replaced the silver line.  MA (got an email from them) said that the RS line will match each other just fine. (Now, that really helped!)

Question: Should I stay with the RS series or could I use an older series to use as fronts.  It needs to be bookshelf size.  Crappy soundstage and not much room to add a floorstander.

Older stuff will cost less.  I'm retired and married.

Thanks for any input.

Mike

Personally, I'd use the older series.  Although others might disagree with me, I think that you'll be close enough in tonal balance it shouldn't matter much.  I purchased a used Linn 5120 center to go with my Linn 5140s (right/left).  The Linn 5120 was a newer model and had a different tweeter.  Honestly, I didn't notice any difference.  Of course, if they did a complete redesign, there might be a difference.
