Denon 4306 and Ethernet or USB
« on: 30 Jan 2006, 08:01 pm »
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this post, so forgive me if I made a newbie mistake.

I'm curious about the new Ethernet and USB features of the Denon 4306, as I'm very interested in eliminating the CD player as the source and switching to computer/hard drive based source. Has anyone here, who has had their 4306 awhile, performed a listening test comparison of the various audio inputs?

Specifically, I'd like to know how the sound quality of these compare:
1. Denon Link (Using DVD-3910 or DVD-5910 as source)
2. S/PDIF (Using any CD/DVD Player as source)
3. Ethernet (Using Windows Media Connect PC as source - with uncompressed (WAV) audio files)
4. USB (Using an external USB Hard Drive as source - with uncompressed (WAV) audio files)

Is there any technical review, out there, that compares which of these connections offer the lowest amount of jitter?

I've been hearing more and more about USB DACs out there now, but they promote an all battery solution and/or removing power from the USB line. If you hook up an external USB drive to the 4306, is there still power in the USB line?

How would the 4306 compare to other USB DACs? (Other than the obvious benefit of doubling as a home theater receiver.)

Thanks for any info!
