SB3 shutdown problem

I'm back from holidays and again playing with my SB3 and working on this problem.

I'm still getting random shutdowns. It will sometimes play for a couple of hours before it happens but invariably, every session ends in a crash/hang/shutdown or it just blasts out static and hiss over the music.

Oh, there was one evening it worked perfectly.

If I unplug the power after a shutdown, wait a couple of seconds and then reconnect the power, the music continues where it left off (server seems fine) but the next crash/shutdown happens within minutes.

Note that it's now completely wired to the server. I've also upgraded to version 6.2.2 of the server.

Anyway, hope to get to the bottom of this.

I should also add that I'm quite sure it's not just a screensaver going off. No button on the remote control brings the display back. It's dead.

Anytime my wireless SB3 has pulled this trick, it was always related somehow to signal strength - I would have to unplug the SB3, carry it upstairs to the PC, reboot the modem, the router, and the PC, then plug in the AC of the SB3, and poof it would work again.  Transport the SB3 back to the basement, and it would work again for a couple of days.

In my case, it turned out that the router was not working right - replacing that has caused this problem to completely disappear.

BUT, since you are using a wired connection, it has to be something else - call Slim Devices, I hear they have exceptional support folks to assist you.

Thanks. Since no one else seems to have this problem, I suspect it might be the cross-over ethernet cable I made to connect the SB3 to the server.

I put in a support call to SlimDevices and they advised me to try pulling out the wireless card.

Sure enough, it started working perfectly. No dimming of the display. No shutdowns. Completely reliable.

After a couple of days, I reseated the wireless card and it's still working fine.

Fingers crossed that it will continue working. If not, SlimDevices has offered to replace the wireless card.

Excellent support.  :D
