While I'm waiting for my CDWG...

I'm thinking that it will be quite a benefit.  I have my RM40s crossed over in front of the sweet spot.  If you sit in the sweet spot, it's great.  The other night, I was watching the second Toy Story (the new version -- wow, what picture and sound!), and I was sitting quite a bit off center.  I could localize some of the sounds a bit more.  So, I'm thinking that the CDWG will really help that situation, to spread out and non-localize the sound.

Also, some time this year, I'm going to be transferring to an overhead projector.  My RM30C is going to go from the top of my RPTV probably to a stand beneath a pull down screen.  I think the CDWG will be a tremendous help to spread the sound from the center channel.  The only detriment perhaps will be more sound bounce off the ceiling (correctable) and the floor (harder to correct).

Bob,

You will like the 2 channel with CDWG 40s.  I am wondering how CDWG 30c will interact with your CDWG 40s.  If you are putting your 30c behind the screen, why not just stand it up?  I am curious which orientation of the center channel will work better.  Or may be even none with CDWG 40 providing strong phantom center?

Don't forget to remove the horns.

Well, what I'm planning on doing is the following.  Here's what my HT looks like:

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;area=browse;album=420

This is different -- the computer is now upstairs.  Anyway, I want to reverse this -- the RM40s will flank the sliding doors.  The center channel will be between the RM40s.  The screen will be a pulldown and come out only for movies.  The screen will come down between the RM40s.  I'll put extremely dark curtains to cover the sliders (and the other windows).   I don't think they make acoustically transparent screens for this particular application.  Or do they?  I don't know.  Putting the RM30C straight up would kick butt.

As for no center, I did a test with and without center.  I liked the center for action movies. However, I can do another test when the CDWG gets here.  (Also, I seem to remember something wierd about my Proceed AVP -- I think I had to run all speakers full range if I did not use a center; I think that would be bad.)

I should note that I'm not sure what I want to do is possible -- a screen in front of a sliding glass door?  Maybe not possible.   However, this would look a lot nicer and render useable the (gas) fireplace, which I've never used.  It may also give me more sub placement options and allow me to put all of the components behind me, where the bazillion LEDs can't be seen.  It will entail drywall construction, though.

From what I can see, it will take some logistical planning.  Wiring for the front three will be long and can get expensive.  Will you have your center on castors to move away from the door when not in use?  Maybe a side wall would be better?  Good luck.
