I am a click away from getting the new iPod Video. :o  I wonder if the sound quality is better than the previous iPod.

Is there anyone who recently upgraded?

Liked it?

Hated it?

I am surely interested to know.

Believe it or not the best ipod I´ve heard to date it´s the Nano. Currently I own a 4Gb Nano and a Video 60GB. By the way the Nano makes an ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC combo with the Sony MDR EX71 earphones being a match not so amazing (although very good) with the ipod Video.

several articles and people on the http://head-fi.org/ forum claim the shuffle actually has the best sound.

My guess would be that the MDR EX71 has synergy with the 4Gb Nano.  Interesting findings.

The Nano and the 4th gen iPods (b/w screen and the Photo units) use the same Wolfson WM8975 dac.  This is the best sounding one IMO, but bypassing all the junk after the dac is the only way to hear its true potential.

Note, I'm speaking in terms of using it as a source for a home stereo setup or a dedicated heaphone amp, NOT using the headphone output jack.

I have a 2nd Gen. that I use with Shure E3's and am quite happy with it.  But really, go for the new video one.  The sound quality difference won't be huge, really, and you'll have so many more features and better battery life.  For a portable device, that will be much more appealing than marginally (and disputably) better sound.  If you find, for some reason, that gen 2 is supposed to sound best, I'd be happy to give you a good deal :)  It has the cool all-touch buttons too.
