I bought one about 4 years ago and it has proven trouble free. A while back I made some changes to the power supply and to the output stage and found the result worthwhile. It's not as good as my Bolder modded SB2, but it's still pretty good. I use mine driving a pair of Swans M200 speakers in my office at work and it sounds amazingly good.

I owned a stereo-link and sold it when I got my squeezebox. The stereo-link has a decent DAC, but it is not outstanding. It is definitely a step up from your run-of-the-mill Creative Soundblaster card, but its DAC does not sound as good as the squeezebox's. I would put it on par with my old Onkyo 6-CD changer circa 1996.
