I just got back from an overseas holiday, with a few hundred photos that were taken with a new digital camera (Canon PowerShot A610 5mp) that I bought just before I left.

I can happily view the photos on my PC (downloaded) or TV (via camera plugged into TV) but would like to create an album on DVD that can be displayed on any TV via any DVD player (eg. for my parents).

What is the best software for doing this? Ideally, the photos would scroll automatically (for say 3 or 5 seconds each) or could be paused or skipped forward or backward using the DVD player's remote control.

Anyone have any preferences?

Many thanks!

I used Nero to do this for our vacation photos. Don't know if it's the best but it was very painless and played fine in the DVD player.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I'm a  bit surprised that there weren't a few more suggestions. With all those digital cameras out there, many people must already be doing this.

for this purpose I also use Nero which came free with my dvd burner.

it's very simple and (relatively) foolproof.

my canon camera (most of the range have the same software) came with a CD of software which included an album builder but only for CD, not DVD... not enough capacity for most of my purposes!

My wife uses Cyberlink products. It may be more than you are looking for as its kind of any all in one media editing/DVD burning etc..  She has been using it to create DVD's with music soundtracks, picture transitions, text and all that. You could probably set it up to respond to the DVD remote to move between pictures but it might take some work.  We happened across it at a computer store closeout rack for $10. Not sure how much it usually retails for.

I love Picasa for organizing and displaying photos. It's a free download, it has simple editing function, and it's very easy to use. You can use any DVD burning program to burn files onto disc but I don't know if they'll play on an ordinary DVD player. I use a HTPC at home so it's not an issue for me.
