You might want to look at this page:

"EASY FUTURE UPGRADES

We’ve designed the SP 1.7 with a plug-in ROM chip; this allows for convenient upgrades so future software changes are quick and easy to implement. On the hardware side, our pin-to-pin compatible digital board topology facilitates upgrades to future formats or digital processing technologies. The SP 1.7’s existing DAC chips can run at sample rates up to 192kHz facilitating upgrades to accommodate future formats. It is worth noting that many manufacturers promise that their units will be upgradable for future technology. Bryston actually does it (and is doing so today, at moderate cost, for the SP 1.7’s predecessor).

Hi All,

The SP2 has 20 years on all the ANALOG circuits - the modular DIGITAL circuit board has a 5 year warranty.

It is the same for the DAC in the BP26,B-100 etc.

James, if the upgrade is done on a pre/pro like the SP1.7, do the new digital boards have a 5 yr. warranty from the date of the upgrade?  Or does the original purchase of the unit determine the starting point?

Thanks

Hi James,

I'm not going to beat around the bush, so do I still have the 20 year warranty on my SP1.7 INCLUDING the digital circuit boards as stated in my manual??

Thanks.

Yes the original units still have the 20 years.
If you upgrade the Digital Board that upgrade board goes to 5 years.

Interesting..

Why the change/distinction between the Digital/Analog circuits now then ?

Are you expecting the Digital circuits lifespan to be significantly less or is it due to the complexity of the boards used.

Or is it with a view that digital progresses so fast that another upgrade would have appeared which supersedes the current digital board and therefore supporting older boards would become cumbersome ?

Cheers

Matt
