The Channel Islands Audio VAC-1 power supply for their VDA-1 DAC supplies 14V @ 1.44 Amps.  Could it easily be modified to provide 5V?

If so, any guesses to whether it would be a worthwhile upgrade to the Squeezebox2?

The VAC-1 is an AC, not a DC powersupply. While it provides far too much voltage which will have to be 'thrown away', it provides minimal current capability for your needs. It also lacks the requisite rectifiers, capacitors, regulators..... don't bother.

If you want an upgraded linear regulated supply rather than the stock switching supply, buy the supply from Hosfelt for $6.95 referenced here-

you'll have to change its dc plug to one appropriate for the SB2 as described in follow up posts. The folks who've used it seem to feel its a substantial upgrade.

If you want a more bespoke supply, with even better performance, at commensurately higher cost, contact Wayne at Boulder Audio or Vinnie at Red Wine Audio. They both have their own circles here in the vendor sections.
