Im after a case similar to the valve amp in septembers silicon chip mag.

does anyone know a supplier of extruded aluminium cases in australia. I have tried a google search and found a few but the cases are all too small.

The gk1R is purring along beautifully, its owner however needs a new home for it.

cheers

Hey fos
You probably won't ever find an off the shelf alloy box big enough for the GK-1 so you'll probably need to talk to an aluminium fabricator....

To start with head to http://www.smorgonsteel.com.au/metalsdistribution/sscatalogue/ss_al_cat_list.asp and see what is available off the shelf in terms of aluminium extrusions.

I reckon the closest thing that'll do the deed is one of the the seating profiles.

The alternative is to consider alloy castings....but that may be on the pricey side.

g'day Seano,

cheers for the reply, I did have a look at the smorgon site but missed the 'seating' section.

Its the type of thing i had in mind. 55mm may be deep enough to house the main board, have to open up and measure up. the transformers can sit ontop with their own covers.

hopefully very valve like! :)

Supplier of Aluminium stuff in all sorts of profiles is CAPRAL. They have branches nearly everywhere - I don't know if there is one in Can'Tberra.
I use their H Section stuff for tube amp chassis all the time. Just bolt one H section (as a base) between 2 other H sections (Front and back panels).
Cheers,
Ginger

Foster,

I can't offer much on the extruded Al front;  this is fairly specialised and I've not looked into it for the Swift, preferring to use timber surrounds.

Capral is a good option, but there are many ornamental Al suppliers for the building industry, so perhaps a visit to a building material supplier (and perhaps more likely, a kitchen supplier) might be a good idea.

Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Cheers,

Hugh
