How to make your speakers truly shine!

If you talk to professional woodworkers or the people who take care of the highest quality furniture or museum conservators you'll find your household wax like Pledge is little more than garbage.  To properly care for high quality finishes a quality wax is used.  Here's one I tried on my VMPS RM 40's:

http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES.exe?PARTNUM=123-350

This is a true wood wax that really does protect and not only that the shine stays for months.  It's only needed a couple of times a year. In between you just wipe off the dust.  At 23 bucks shipped it doesn't appear cheap but a little goes a long way and being as you only need to do it twice a year or so a jar will last a decade even if you have very large speakers.  So it's actually less expensive in the long run.

I'd often wondered why something better than Pledge hadn't been made and learned about proper wood protection and shining on an Audioasylum post.

The already gorgeous Rosewood finish on my Rm 40's looks much deeper and richer with this wax.

Very cool.

Thanks for pointing me (us) to this product!

Is there a lot of buffing?

Nice find.  I have a couple concerns.

I've often read that as wax based polishes build up it is a good idea to occasionally strip them off and re-apply your finish (assuming an oil of some sort).

I wonder if this product will easily wipe off with mineral spirits?
Do you think this product has any benefit on poly or laquer clear coats?
I have a set of cabinets that are wiped with Watco Danish Oil. I'd like to give a product like this a try but don't want any maintenance challenges down the road.

Thanks.

Marbles:  One thing to make sure is to buff it within the 3-5 minutes they tell you or it's hard to get off as it's very a hard wax when it dries. Also only put on a thin coat, not like you would when waxing your car.  It's more work than Pledge but the shine stays.

I hope it's useful to someone else.
I have a jar on order now.

Thanks again for the find.

You can either have a shine in the wood or on the wood.

Some woods can develop a slight transluscence in the surface layers if they are treated with some sort of natural oil based product eg www.organoil.com.au To me this is more subtle than a polish on the surface of an item. Another way of putting it is that the surface gloss is not as great while the wood itself seems to glow more in an almost 3D way.

Beeswax based polishes are very good [and not all that hard to make] but they are again, very much a surface application that doesn't penetrate much.

It's also possible to follow an oil based polish with some other spirit or oil based coating. The there's always Shellac ......  :) No, shouldn't have mentioned that one.

I'm a bit of an oil fan myself but I also use solid wood rather than veneer and this is slightly different in various ways.
