I'd like to know what Roger plans to use for amplification. I'd sure like to hear that set up!
Something similar was done in Munich about 15 years ago by Philips in an attempt to prove to Sergiu Celibidache (conducter of the Munich Symphony  and not a fan of recorded music)  how good recorded sound could be so that he would agree to record with them. They sent out their head engineer and a couple of 18 wheeler loads of gear and set it up in the Symphonic Hall, including a giant electrostatic array capable of duplicating the sound energy of a whole live orchestra. The maestro dutifully sat and listened and noticed, in the piece of music being used to demonstrate, that after the repeat in the music the performance was identical to what had come before the repeat, i.e., they had spliced the same thing in because something had obviously gone wrong in the second part and it was easier than getting the orchestra to play it again.
Demo over!
Once again, Sergiu declined and Philips went home to Holland. It wasn't until after his death 8 years ago that much of his work was released by his family.

They are 8'-8" tall, in case anyone is wondering. There is a consumer version called the Majestic. They are more efficient than any full range speaker Sound Lab has ever built.

Disclaimer: I'm a Sound Lab dealer.

Seems to me the Sound Lab was J Gordon Holt's (Stereophile founder, more recently with Absolute Sound) favorite speaker, may still be.

Yes, Russell, Gordon used the A-3s and I think still has them. I remember hearing them years ago here in Chicago at Summer CES, along with the A-1s in the adjacent room. They even had a stuffed doll on a chair wearing a CES badge labeled Harry Goldenears

Here is a pair of Pro-Stat 945s between a pair of A-1s.
The Pro-Stats are 8'-8" tall and about 40" wide.
The Majestics look the same except with wood trim strips on the sides in the style of the M-1s, for home use.

Would someone please say what this thread is about?  I (or someone) could put this post in the appropriate circle if it was called something other than 'no text'.

Thanks.

I've been wondering as well. The original post by heavystarch had pictures of the big prostats and a bunch of info but for some reason it appears he deleted it.  :?:

This is the first time I've even seen the mysterious "Lmbo" so I'm very excited by the sense of mystery!

In my opinion this thread is devoted to extrememly large and possibly mythical speakers that no-one could possibly afford.

More please

Actually, Jules, you might be able to hear a pair of Majestics (consumer version of the Pro-Stats) in your area in a couple of months, going to one of my customers. Feel free to contact me offline if you wish.

The Majestics retail for around $31,000 the pair.

The reason this thread has no title is that heavystarch effectively deleted his post and its title which was about the Sound Lab Pro-Stats.

Just saw this post. Yes, I was there at the Sound Lab in July to have my A-1 cores re-built. Thanks Brain for the Address info. Brett told me that Roger was intending to use 3 pairs per side stack up for the Joseph Smith Memorial Center, a huge 20-some thousand seat auditorium in Salt Lake City. They were awiating word if they got the contract. They are certainly big and impressive. Even my wife was in awe.

Sound Lab has been my reference speaker since the early 80s and even today there are certain ways that the most expenisve speakers on the market can still not compare to these.

BTW, Brian, are you coming to the RMAF end of the month?  If so, please let me know so we can hook up. I'm also hosting an open house at my place on Thursday.

Hi Steve,
Yes, I'll be attending the show but won't be arriving till late Friday morning so will miss your Thursday night gig. Shoot me an email if you'd like to get together at the show. I know about the LDS Conference Center, quite a magnificent venue.
