I have a pair of B&W 801 Matrix Series 3 speakers fed by a NAD 208THX amplifier and looking at the prospect of purchasing a pair of Mono Extremes.

I'm also in the process of sourcing a pair of JBL XPL-200 speakers, of similar performance to the 801's.  Each XPL-200 speaker will be connected to an external network crossover requiring a pair of monoblocks (one for high frquency and the other as a low frequency amp) to run in a bi-amped configuration.  That is two monoblocks per speaker.

The prospect of purchasing 4 monoblock Mono Extremes seems is daunting.

How well do the Mono Extremes perform at being dedicated as either a low or high frequency amplifier?  Is running 4 monoblock extremes excessive?  Would the mono extremes be better suited running as a high frequency amp and using something different on the low end?

I would imagine that a monoblock not having to drive a full range signal would perform more effortlessly.

Has anyone her used Mono Extremes in a bi-amped configuration? Id so, I'd like to hear your comparisons/review?

Cheers

hello and welcome to the audiocircles,   yes there are folks running four mono extremes at once. in my humble opinion the mono extremes will walk all over the NAD amplifier that you are currently using and will drive virtually any loudspeaker out there.thanks....WCW III

Hi Bunky,

I eventually plan to relegate my NAD to sub duties, driving either one or two subs.

I think my initial intention would be to purchase a pair first up to test my 801's and in future XPL's and once I'm happy with that scenario I'll go ahead and purchase a second pair.

Cheers
Pasadena.

I have a pair of Mono Extremes driving B&W 803's (series II) and the sound is superb....I can bring volumes up with no distortion to a point I am afraid I will split the outside brick...absolute synergy. Welcome!
