Jeff,
even if nobody can help with a listening comparison, maybe technical comparisons could, at least regarding the tech-spec on the TT site:
-TTR: 88db/w/m
Ellis: 84 to 85 db
It's to say that, if 88db is the real efficiency of the TTR, the TTR has obligatory less bass/sub-bass than the Ellis and need a subwoofer that Ellis don't need. Baffle-step compensation isn't sufficiant on the TTR. This fact is physically obvious.
-TTR: port on front baffle
Ellis: port on rear baffle
Mid-frequencies leaving the port are more going to affect those comming from the driver on the TTR in an "out of phase" way; this will perturb the timbres of the instruments/voices.
-TTR: in a first view, a relatively "common" scan-speak 1" tweeter
Ellis: a 3/4"hiquphon tweeter
I had a scan-speak 1" revelator (top of the range): this tweeter, even if very good, isn't as linear, particularly in the upper-treble than the hiquphon; the of-axis responce of the Ellis is perfect, assuming a perfect image and soundstage. I cannot comment on this issue about the TTR.
-TTR: hovland caps (at best)
Ellis: sonicaps
sonicaps are better stuff, allowing very good transparency and amount of details.
I could continue with the "rock-solid" enclosure of the Ellis etc, etc...
IMHO, these two speakers don't battle on the same quality range at least in term of technology; so if I helped...
Sorry for my bad english, don't laugh, rez

laughs at it enough
