To answer some of the posts that have asked "what do Gregg Straley's ("Reality Cables") sound like?":

IMHO Gregg's cables don't have a sound signature at all! They allow more micro-information (both dynamic and harmonic) to be transfered to the next component in your sound system than anything else I've ever tried. This allows your system to flesh out a better sound stage and definately get those inner details like no other reasonably priced cable I've ever experienced (and I've esperienced WAY to many to count!). Basically, if you are looking for a clear window from your source component to your next component to your speakers, Gregg's cables are the ticket.

There are some audiophiles though that are looking for bass boost from a cable or high end roll-off or a midrange recesssion and the like from their cable choice. This is where the Reality Cables will let those audiophiles down. They are designed to carry the signal to the next point with the least coloration and virtually no loss of information without any coloration or spectral change whatsoever.

I have actually told Gregg that he should charge much more for his cables since this sort of performance and transparency from a cable design usually costs and arm and a leg!. As of today, until I hear something better anywhere near the price point of the Gregg's Reality Cables, I'm labelling them as "the best bang for the buck cable" as compared to anything upwards of $1,000 and more! (for a fraction of that cost mind you!)

Way to go Gregg Straley!

Any opinions here re mixing and matching cable brands. There have been some view express above but does itreally really matter if you mix brands or even models within brands. For example some of us need say a long run of ics for say cdp to pre and cant afford to match cables we use for short runs...

just thinking....

PS a gregg staley v. vh audio pulsar shootout would be wonderous to behold....

I had never heard of Gregg Straley cables until I joined the Audio Circle. I gave him a call this afternoon and he was very kind to spend quite a bit of time talking about my system and his experience with the NuForce amps which I am considering auditioning along with the CIA amps. A great guy. I will definitely audition his stuff to see how it compares to my old JPS speaker cables and IC's.

Thank You! Eric Hider for the favorable comments about my cables. I am very pleased that you enjoy listening to them.
As far as some of the rest of the posts that I read: I personally feel that mixing and matching various different brands of cables together can lead to not being able to hear what a cable may be capable of delivering. Your only going to pass through the information that the least revealing cable will let pass through it. I personally experienced a dealer/friend who had Empirical Audio cables throught his system. We replaced one of my interconnects between the cd player and the preamp and you could hear a slight improvement. Then we replaced the interconnect between the preamp and the amp and it was just a little bit better. It wasn't until we replaced the speaker cables that we finally heard what his system was capable of doing. I personally feel that until we changed all of my wire that we finally heard what my cables were capable of delivering. I also had an experience with a guy that was using Siltech cables. I sent him an interconnect and he told me was not liking what he was hearing. I then sent him another interconnect and a pair of speaker cables and then he was impressed with my cables. I do feel that some cables do not intergrate well or have a synergy with other brands of cables.

Gregg's cables are GIANT KILLERS!! Gregg came by my loft in Chicago and brought his "Licorice Cables"

Gregg and I also put one cable in my system at a time. There were improvements but nothing like when my system was completely outfitted with the Reality Cables. The sound was so much more open (More air around the instruments) and with PIN POINT IMAGING, detailed with a Very large soundstage. Since my system is all tube we used the Reality Cables for Tubes.

Gregg, I'm in the process of evaluating some other power amps and preamps. When I decide which way I'm going I will order my cables.

Hey George, My cables were made by local guy here in Chicago. They were cryo'd with Cardas ends. I did compare my cables to Jena Labs cables costing 3 to 4 time more and my Fro-Zen cables won. This was a blindfold test!! The Reality Cables really opened the music up. Still had a full rich sound that I like but with more detail and Pin Point Imaging. As I said earlier, when I replaced all my cables with Gregg's cables thats when the real magic happened!! For my system click on my system link. I consider myself lucky living in Chicago. I got to listen to Bill's (Eastern Electric) minimax phono stage in my loft (BTW, another Giant Killer!!) and now Gregg Straley and his cables.. Not only that but I gained some great audio buddies..

Thank You for inviting me over for a fun listening session. Thanks for the comments about my cables. I really liked the size of your listening room. I was able to hear what the Von Schweikert VR IVjr's could do. I heard them at a Chicago Audio Society meeting and was not very impressed. At your house we were able to get them to sing. I loved listening to some of your vinyl collection.

My dealer is selling some type 6..? biwire for $370 CDN. After the discount i'm thinking of $250?
Anyways, how do they affect the sound, more bass, less highes, etc. etc.
Let me know if you use these cables and what you think of them.

In regard to your question about Audioquest cables, they have a plethora of models that vary sonically quite a bit! Most of the top model Audioquest models are decent sounding in terms of not being colored or contrived to change the bass or roll off the treble but those models are WAY WAY WAY overpriced! I would pay only 10% of retail for any of those very top Audioquest wires and even then I am quite sure that my current cables are much more transparent than Audioquest's best offering.

Based on my experience with the large scale cable manufacturers like Audioquest, Kimber, Cardas, Nordost and the like I have found very little sonic consistency between their different offerings from their basic entry level wires to their top offerings. Therefore I think it is a BIG MISTAKE to "label" a particular brand of wire as sounding a certian way.

At this point in time I think there are other great "bang for the buck" cable choices where the company founders have chosen to avoid the $50,000 marketing campaigns (which has to be rollled into the price of the cables!). This puts those companies in the position to crushing the big cable companies in terms of performance per dollar spent by the end consumer. IMHO the big guys are all seriously overpriced, even in the used bargain basement marketplace!

It used to be that Alphacore Goertz MI-2 Python was considered the speaker cable killer. It's still available at $9/foot in bulk from Dr. J's at http://www.soniccraft.com/

Any comparison's to Greg's cables?
