Is the SB2 PCM1748E DAC good enough quality?

I'm curious if the Burr Brown PCM1748E DAC used in the SB2 is of good enough quality to produce truly high end sound in comparison to other CDP's or add on DAC's. This is the most inexpensive DAC in their line I've read. It sells for $1.30 in quantity so it's rather inexpensive.

I have a modified Elite player which uses BB PCM1738's that I like a whole lot since the mods so I don't want to take a step backwards with the SB2 in sound quality.

Any thoughts?

I don't think so.  I listened to a few dozen tracks over my SB2 going analog out and it didn't sound all that hot to me.  Once I hooked it up digitally to my Channel Islands DAC I thought it sounded great.

I'm sure if the unit were to be modded, it'll sound even better.  Saving my pennies for the very same thing.
