I bought the 7.0 that bluewax had for sale. To my ears, they seem a bit rolled off in the high end. I don't like a 'tipped up' bright speaker, but these lack a bit of sparkle.

Blue told me he took them to 8th Nerve to be measured. I contacted Nathan, and he told me he thought they were indeed a bit 'soft' in the highs and reversing the tweeter polarity didn't change things much. (thanks for taking time to reply Nathan)

My question is this....would changing the 9300 tweeter for a 9500 help? Would it be a drop in replacement? I know crossovers are often tweeked for specific drivers. I looked at the specs and the free air resonance (what ever that means) is different.

Check to make sure which tweeter you have, it could be the 9700.

Two things helped with my drum 9.0's:  First get the speakers to a normal height, like on 24" stands, and then put something under the back legs, for me VHS tapes worked well, in order to have the front baffles straight up and down in order for the tweeter to point directly at your ears.  Also make sure the toe in is right at your ears.

The second thing I did was to rewire them with Bolder Nitro.  This is an expensive mod IMO.

Doc,
Rob offers some good advice.  Since Blue's speakers were wood to marble conversions I imagine they are the 9300 tweeter, which without trying to stereotype, is a bit mellower.  If you decide to switch out, I would suggest going to the 9700.  It will definately add some more sizzle.

But before doing so, I would put Rob's suggestions to a test.  I have also found a different i/c or speaker cable may get you where you want to be.  Best of luck.

Regards,
Jeff

Bluewax saw my post here and offered to rebate me some money because he felt like I wasn't satisfied with my purchase. I hope I'm not embarassing him by posting this, but I thought that was such a totally classy thing to do....typical of what I've found of AC members. I declined, because he didn't misrepresent anything. I'm not at all unhappy with these speakers. Just trying to tweek 'em a bit.

The Scan-Speak tweeters roll off in the top octave off-axis because of the dome width. The crossover can be modified to help alleviate this.
