4B SST Power

I was going through my manual and noticed the power specs for my amp.

       Idle at 170 Watts and 300w @ 8ohms 1280 watts.

I would like to know when  does my amp draw that wattage. Is it at a specific volume etc...

For now my speakers are Paradigm Studio 60 soon to be upgraded to S4's.

       Cheers

That would be at full power into 8 ohms.

James,

Thanks for the response.  Having my amp connected to my reciever when am I using full power. Is the realtionship directly connected to how loud I play my system ie: turning the volume to max.

Sorry for my lack of knowlege in this matter.

         Cheers

Hi,

If your using a receiver then the "gain' of the preamp section would determine the volume level.
As long as the green led lights on the front of your 4B are not going Red then you are fine.

freakygeek,

I just wanted to make sure that you were not powering your amp from a power receptacle in the receiver ? This is usually a bad idea.

Thanks,

If my lights turn amber or red on my amp then I'm close or exceding the limits of my amp.

What does it mean when I first turn it on my lights turn red before green.

What I'm leaning to is the purchase of a line conditioner. The fore front leader is a model form Running Springs Audio and I'm trying to deciede on what model to get.  I know I shouldn't be plugging my amp into it but my power supply needs attention.

                 Cheers
