2xbridged 3BST or 1x4BST (stereo) ?
« on: 17 Jul 2005, 09:06 pm »
HI,

What is the sonic performance comparing between 2xbridged 3BST to one single 4BST in stereo mode ?

Any prons and cons on both setup ?

Many thanks.

I believe bridged 3B-ST amps are not recommended for speakers with impedance loads less than 4 ohms. I would assume if your speakers are low impedance then it might affect the sound, or if your speaker's impedance dips at certain frequencies.

My personal experience has been that the 3B-ST has clearer highs and the 4B-ST has better bass response. The 3B-ST and 4B-ST amps are identical in design so the difference may be my imagination.

Hi Jethro,

in what way does a low impedance influence the sound?

I use speakers which have a very low impedance: from 20-100 Hz they have 3 Ohms - and 2 Ohms from 100-20000. The curve is as flat as a pancake. No real minimum.

I never experienced any problems or "bad" sound with my B60.

Phoenix, I mispoke in my last post. I wouldn't expect you to have bad sound with low impedance speakers unless you  listen loudly enough to clip.

All amp manufacturers that I have seen, always  double their recommended impedance rating when their amps are run in bridged mode. I'm not sure if it is just to protect the electronic components from handling twice the current and burning up, or if their components can't supply the current when in bridged mode to low impedance speakers.

Please, somebody who knows, jump in.
