Good Source for Veneer?
« on: 11 Aug 2005, 02:59 pm »
Does anyone have a good place to order veneer on the web?  Nothing too fancy, just looking for some walnut.  I recently completed my AV3s and, while they sound fantastic, the wife would like some sort of finish on them.

Also, if anyone in the DFW area has a source in town, I would appreciate that as well.

Thanks in advance.

I second Al's recommendation.  I've used Tape Ease for several years now.  I've never had a problem with the quality of any of their veneers.

Oakwood or Tapeease.  Both are good.
However, I just had some Burl Walnut from
Tapease thier book matching left something
to be desired.  I've had great luck with Oakwood.
Zebra stripe, 3 types of gorgeous mahogony & crotch
mahogonay, Teak & Lacewood.

Does anyone have the .url for Derwoods site?
He used to have some great veneers, small lots
which were ideal for the DIY doing typical enclosures.

Can I ask a serious question?  I am no enviro-nazi but are buying these exotic veneers from ebay, et al encouraging massive harvesting of forest and or illegal deforestation?  That is a concern I have with buying them, that I am contributing to the problem.

I think the answer to that would be "it depends".  If you are considering buying from a specific supplier you may want to give them a call or drop an email and ask where they source their product from.  Whether or not they are willing or able to give you an answer is another story.

If you give it a try let us know what you find out.

I use Tapeease for the more unusual stuff, but if you just want basic oak, cherry etc., try www.woodnshop.com.  Great prices and quality stuff.  Also, you can various sizes much smaller than a whole 4'X8' sheet.

I too second the recommendation of Tape Ease.
