Could anyone provide advice on speakers for the novice? I enjoy classical and jazz music. I was thinking of Swan speakers. I want to buy only 2 speakers right now and build up later.  I have an old receiver that I love and refuse to update; a Sansui RZ-8300AV.  I am also looking at the Swan M200 multimedia for my computer. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Cheers,

if you're looking for a bookshelf speaker, i'd highly recommend the Rocket by Onix RS150 speakers. they are on sale right now for $199/pr and sound amazing for the price.

if you're looking for a floorstander, their RS550MkII is on sale right now for $699/pr.

Rockets are good, so are the swans IMHO.  Swans give a laid back presentation not dissimmilar to those of the nautilus series from B&W.  I had at one time the diva 4.1's and some rocket bookshelf speakers.  I think it comes down more to your taste in sound than anything else.

I owned a pair of Swan M200's and did not like them overall for sitting in front of my computer.  They were veiled and congested sounding when sitting 2ft from them.  They are also pretty big so I don't exactly recommend them for placing on a desktop.  They do open up in a larger space so for cheap bookshelfs they're not bad.

I use the M200s with my computer at work, listening primarily to chamber music.  I too find them slightly veiled, but they're fine if used with some treble equalization such as within Foobar.  I think they're substantially better than any computer speakers I've ever heard.

They are suprisingly large though.
