Cornet rectifier
« on: 19 Jun 2005, 03:34 am »
I found an old Baldwin organ at the dump and was able to pull the tubes out. Some old 12ax7's (tube rolling, yea!!) and 6bq5's and one 5U4GB rectifier tube. I've read the 5U4 can replace the 5Y3 if the power supply can handle the higher amperage heaters. I have the 270BX. Can this handle it. If not, could the 370?

The 370BX is rated at 2A for the 5V tap but the 5U4 wants 3A, so I don't think that's a good idea...  and the 270 transformer had issues so I don't think it would be a good idea to increase the load on it, either.  Besides, 5U4's are directly heated... I'd say find a 5Y3 or 5AR4, they both work nicely...
