I realize now probably should have made my intro post here rather than the starting block.

Hello all, I recently decided to build my first pair of speakers and chose the LGK 2.1s, just wanted to share them with y'all and join the community as I start planning the next upgrade! These are my first proper speakers and man I was missing out on a lot, it's pretty impressive how many little details I can hear now. I am running the speakers with the Ampapa Q1 dac and D1 amp and have been very pleased with the performance for near field listening. I have a pair of SX52Bs in the amp currently, still need to upgrade to a 10A power supply though.

The speakers have a shop made sapele veneer paired with ash strips on the edges to allow for the 3/8" roundover. It was quite a lot more work than a standard veneer but I think the final product was worth it.

A few photos from the build:

Thanks for looking!

Nice work!  I envy your veneering skills, I just ended up putting black duratex for the pair I built for my son.  Yours look WAY better than mine did.

I calculated it out, if you were to get a speaker of similar levels of finish and performance to the 2.1 it'd be probably $3500 from a big speaker manufacturer.  They are that good.

Looks like a pretty nice work-space you have there. And some decent “toys”. 👍🏼 Also, agree with the above, very nice work!

Thanks everyone! I figured that since I have access to all the work tools for personal projects, I ought to put in the effort and make them really nice. Plus I have been stuck in the metal shop for the last few months and really needed some woodwork therapy.

Tyson, I bet your son's sound pretty great with those upgraded crossovers you went with! I referenced your build log a fair bit during my own, so thank you for posting that! I keep trying to tell my lady that I actually made money by building the speakers but she remains skeptical.

Now I just need a proper sub to pair with them but I'm not sure the 12" servo sub is going to fit under my desk.
