I owned 2 pairs of the X-Omni's, one from the AV123 inventory clear-out and a 2nd that I purchased as a kit from GR with the upgraded crossovers.
I used them in a basement surround system where the kids had video games and a ping pong table. My 2 young boys could take anything they got their hands on and turn it into a weapon so I bought my first pair for 2 reasons...1) I was always super curious about them, had never heard omni directional speakers before and 2) They were cheap enough that if the boys did destroy one or both of them, the financial loss wouldn't be painful. I bought the 2nd pair because I was astonished at how much I enjoyed these speakers.
Personally, I loved them. I never found their appearance to be a drawback, but they are quite room dependent. They definitely need at least 3' from any wall and I had installed a drop ceiling in this basement, so the ceiling height was fairly low (maybe 8'). Also because boys are boys, I found soft cubicle walls and installed then about 3' from the basement cement walls...making essentially a room within a room. What I discovered was interesting...that because of the drop ceiling and the soft walls, I vastly improved the room acoustically and the X-Omni's really thrived in that environment. I have never enjoyed any subsequent pair of speakers as much as I enjoyed the X-Omni's but when the kids left the nest, we downsized and the new place was not X-Omni friendly, so I sold them.
