I don't know how many of Danny's designs have the woofers wired out of phase with the other drivers. I am posting this so it doesn't get buried in an NX-Otica build thread.
I was setting up my speakers and dialing them in with a single 3 driver open baffle servo sub. I was struggling with the bass synergy even though I have them crossed over pretty low. I thought to myself, "wait a minute, aren't the bass drivers wired out of phase"?. It had been a while so I had to double check the schematic. Sure enough they are. I switched the phase on the subs and it was a very noticeable improvement.
Please remember if you do this that you have to switch both the servo and driver connections.
One other note regarding general speaker setup. It has to do with the tweeter height. If you add special footers of any kind to the speakers you are changing the height of the tweeters of course. I measured the tweeter height compared to my ears and it was about 5-6 inches higher. This definitely affects frequency response, imaging, etc.
My solution was to tilt the speakers downward a bit compared to stock. I simply boosted the rear footer(s). This helped a lot. Your dimensions will determine how much you will want to use.
Personally I have never heard ribbon tweeters sound as good as these. For many years they always seemed "too fast" or treble boosted causing real difficulty in attaining synergy with the other drivers. Kudos to the designers for this.
I had a tweeter fail so I am behind in my break-in period. I will post a review when I feel things are pretty much settled in. Suffice to say I am very impressed with the results of the build. The top to bottom synergy is really impressive. My previous speakers were also open baffle so there has not been a paradigm shift with regards to that aspect of listening.
