I'm new - came to check out Bryston
« on: Today at 12:03 am »
Hi,

I'm new here, although I've been lurking at audiokarma and head-fi for years.

For years I used rebuilt vintage gear and was on quite a journey to find the best bang for the buck.

I live in Canada and I believe in North American made stuff.

Then I discovered Schiit audio.

These days my system looked like this:

Schiit Yggdrasil Singular -> Schiit Loki Max -> Schiit Freya+ -> Yamaha B2 -> Yamaha NS-1000M.

I have an electrical engineering degree, so any of the vintage gear I used was completely rebuilt and with better components, where possible.

I thought I had hit audio nirvana for the amount of money I was willing to spend....but I keep looking and as I age, I have a bit more money.

I have had a Bryston 3BSST for the past 10 years or so and it comes damned close to that B2.  So, I decided to get a new 3B cubed.  Presto!  This is the first power amp I've used that I think outperforms the B2.

Now i'm curious about Bryston speakers, so I figured it was time to join this site where Bryston has a forum.

Any opinions?  Bryston Middle T or Mini T10 vs Yamaha NS-1000M?  The NS1000 has rebuilt crossovers with the very best Mundorf capacitors and it sounds sublime.  But the bass is a bit lacking and I think the soundstage could be a bit bigger.

Welcome to AC  :thumb:
Being the B2 an power amp I wonder what are those two rotary speaker controls on the B2 at top right?
They are volume pot ?

They are volume pots.  There's actually four of them, two for channel A output and two for channel B output.

Gain/level controls helpful for matching amplifier input sensitivity to various preamp output levels and since it has A and B speaker outputs you can adjust for different speaker sensitivity to match levels between speakers.

Oh great, matching signal level is a highly desirable goal in hi-end audio as the mastering engineers dont know what they are doing.
