I just finished my 2nd foreplay preamp I have a foreplay2 and a model foreplay III they impart a great sound with a SS amps.  I run mine with a Marantz MM 9000 5 channel 150 watt amp.  and also run a Yamaha DSP 1000 for the other foreplay. Try one youwill like it.

Koiman ---- has bottlehead solved their "hum" issues with the new foreplay3  ?

I have a FPII with a Stratos and it works very well.  On first go I had very little hum.  When I upgraded the volume control I also added more hum than I care for and thus it has been out of the system for awhile.

I think hum is very system and construction dependant.  Some times you get it sometimes you don't.

sts9fan, there are a few cheaper simple tube preamps by ASL, nOrh, etc. available.  If you can solder Foreplays are very fun and easy to build.

Lee, how would you compare the II vs. the III?

Thanks everyone!

Zeke,
The foreplay is as quite as a mouse!  My foreplay 2 has a very slight hum without music playing and your ear within a foot of the speaker but once the volume is turned up the slightest there isn't a problem.

MaxCast,
The foreplay III is much more musical and just a better amp. no hum and  it sounds much better than the fully modified forplay2 .  Anyone interested in building a kit this is the one it sounds better every day.

Thank you for the reply.  That is very incouraging.  I had read Doc took care of the hum issues.

He has completely taken care of noise issues.    I just bought a FP III for my system.   I'd take the FPIII over pretty much anything on the market even remotely near the price.   Doc & Paul really have fine tuned this sweet little preamp and their years of constant experimenting and learning has really paid off.
