Oh yes matey. In fact many. But one stands out…
I was a big fan of Derek and Clive (Peter Cook and Dudley Moore), and already had their first two albums.
I’d read a review in “Sounds” magazine of their new album “Ad Nauseam”.
So I went down on the bus, and across town, to my usual record shop “Parrot Records”. It was a tiny, narrow place, with a counter at the back. I asked if they had that record and yes they did. They had headphones for listening to stuff, but you had to stand at the counter.
I couldn’t wait. So rather than taking it home first, all the way across town and then on the bus home - I decided to listen to side one in the shop.
Well, this was a bad move given the, shall we say - humorous nature of the album.
It started off with something about Endangered Species and Whales, and I wasn’t that impressed to be honest, but that disappointment was short-lived as track two began…
There were about 10 people in the shop, and the two owners, and as “The Horse Race” began, I was starting to giggle, with people turning round to look. Well, giggling turned to laughter, and now I had everyone’s attention.
Then the race actually started!
That was it for me. I was literally collapsing and was convulsed with laughter - to the point that I totally lost control of my bladder, and a couple of hours worth of piss began to stream down my left leg. I was hunched over, trying to hold my cock, stop the headphones slipping off onto the wet floor with the other hand, and trying to discretely twist round to hide the dark stain that covered my entire left leg and had even soaked my canvas trainer and sock!
I eventually gained some control, and removed the headphones, saying “I’ll take it”.
Facing the counter, I paid my £2.60, and asked them to put it in a bag for me. Thank god the pound notes were in my other pocket.
Then began the walk of shame, through the shop, half a mile across town to the bus station, desperately trying to cover my soaking leg with the album bag. Luckily they let me on the bus, and I reckon I made it home with definitely less than 100 people sneering and pointing at me. When I went to the pub that night, the first thing someone said to me was - “Heard you bought a new album today”!
