Thanks to all who came out! I'm sorry that tickets were sold out by the time the Day Of came, and some couldn't get into the film (which was quite good), but we had about a dozen attendees:
Adrian W
Chris
Scott C
Lisa C
Jeff K
Jeff's father
David M (Me)
Katie C (my partner)
We gathered out front for a bit, and then Dave Gioia, head projectionist for the Science Center led us up the dual flights of stairs and into the Projection Booth, formerly home to a massive 70mm projector, and now home to an IMAX DOME Laser Projector.
Then, we moved into the cinema itself where Dave had lit up the speakers for us! We got to see the system that was installed in 2019, and he confirmed my gear spotting-the speaker boxes are Danley, but they are said to have custom modifications by IMAX. IMAX is known to modify commercially available solutions. The Danley speakers are really neat because they use a Multiple Entry Horn, which allows for separate bass, mid, and high frequency drivers to feed the same space, and precision manufacturing combined with electronic time alignment makes it work, creating a coherent wavefront in a way other technologies can't.
The subwoofer array consists of Eminence LAB12 subwoofer drivers, four to a cabinet, stacked in a center array in the middle of the cinema. It is....potent.
Dave ran us a trailer for TENET, which was a truly earth-shaking experience.
Afterward, those of us who got tickets in advance watched The Grateful Dead Movie.
