Bypassing electrolytic caps in xover

In a YouTube interview with Richard Vandersteen, he commented that a way to counteract the deleterious effects of electro caps in xovers, is to BYPASS them w/good, quality film caps (low value).
What are Danny's / your thoughts on this?

The effect of using a small by-pass cap across a larger one has been known for years.

We do it often when using large poly caps or when trying to bring a little added speed and detail to tweeter circuits. We even had a custom by-pass cap made for us that we use all the time.

Also just don’t use electrolytic caps in speaker crossovers.

Danny I have in my NX-otica's with a sonic cap's being bypassed by a Deuland's.  Is it an upgrade to go with a large Deuland without a bypass cap?   I assume that a large Deuland being bypassed by a small Deuland would be the best.

It is hard to say exactly which direction one my decide sounds best, but the Sonicap with the by-pass cap is certainly a LOT less expensive.

Yes the larger boutique hi-end caps get really expensive!

For my Otica xovers I experimented with miflex, and deuland bypass caps.  The smaller caps in the circuit (less than 10uf) I used all miflex main caps with dueland bypass.  Tried the cast pio coppers and silver hybrids and also the pure silvers.  Larger circuit caps were all Vcap ODAMs with either miflex or duelands.  What I found was that they all sounded freaking good.  So, I utilized all of them in one way or another.  I have no idea if my expenditures on the main caps are sonically worth the price.  However, I bet sonicaps with some dueland bypass caps is about as good as one can ask for at any price.
