Finished Cabinets for Exodus Kits
« on: 20 May 2005, 02:07 am »
We have some initial offerings for finished cabinets on the Exodus Speaker kits.   Here are a couple pictures with some of the new designs in prototype stage.   Finishes that are available are Cherry, Maple, Walnut and black oak.   The Maple can be ordered unfinished so that it can be stained to taste.

This is a two-way design using the WR-125 & Usher tweeter with a port on the front so that the speaker can be positioned close to room boundries (rear speakers in surround).   Price is approx: $75/cabinet.

Here is the same speaker in unfinished Maple.   All of the enclosures will be offered with unfinished Maple options so that the user can stain the enclosure to taste/room.  Same price as above... approx: $75 each.

A center channel using the WR-125 & Usher tweeter.   Finish in black oak.  This one is approx:  $145/cabinet.   The design could be used as a monitor also for a L/C/R across the front stage.

A three way with the Extremis, WR-125 & Usher tweeter.    The enclosure is Cherry but it's a fairly light cherry finish.   This is a largish monitor (22" tall) which like the KIT61 is a full range speaker with output well into the 20s in room.   The enclosure is approx: $145 each.

Very nice cabinets for a reasonable price.

Is the speaker stand prefab or custom?

All of these are designs in progress so the dimensions of the final product may change.   I just wanted to show some of the enclosure finish options and approx pricing for those planning on building kits.   We are going to have finished cabinets available for virtually all of the kits and we will post final dimensions in detail in the construction docs.

It's a prefab that I picked up a couple years ago.   I use it in the measurement lab and for pictures.    It's nothing more than a MDF base, round metal column and a metal platform with rubber footies.

When the design is finished.  ;-)   I'm working on it some more on Saturday.   I'm hoping that I can build and test the final crossover next week but it's a work in progress.   Price is looking like it will come in around $335/speaker for the parts kit but that may vary with crossover changes.

I can give you some basic dimensions of the shown cabinet.   It's a 22" (H) x 9" (W) x 14" (D) enclosure.    I'm doing the depth and width from memory but they are close to those values.    It has a dedicated chamber for the midrange and the rest of the cabinet is roughly the same internal volume as the KIT61.   They should have identical low frequency response.

Thanks Kevin - I'm not in any big hurry, but that config might be perfect for our TV room. I'd mentally arrived at around $300ea, so I guess I wasn't too far off.

Yes... the WR-125 is $50 but the crossover parts for an approx 400HZ crossover are large and expensive also.    I'll sharpen the pencil a little more when the final design is done.   Either way it should be around $850/pr for finished cabinets and parts.   The final design is showing promise of being one of the better sounding designs.    It uses reference quality parts and good design so the final result is..... pretty good.  :-)

Do you have more info on the CC speaker with two WR-125's and one Usher tweeter (dimensions, cost, performance, frequency response)? I bet it would sound nice with 641s everywhere else.
