Hello,

I have lived on four continents in the past couple of decades and have a few passports so I don't really know where I'm from or how long I'll be where I am. For the record I'm currently in London and until recently was in Los Angeles (before than New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Sweden, Eastern Europe...)

Over time I've had a few systems, from a cheap Phillips radio cassette I used to tape off the radio, through cassette Walkmen, into my first real system (Pioneer CD, Rotel amp and Mordunt Short speakers) alongside the slimmest mobile CD players ever made which I wish I'd kept.

In my 20s I mostly listened in my car and via a Bose box that fitted in my small apartment. Later I invested in a full stack of Pioneer Silver, including a 9800 amp, 1250 cassette and more. I found that all with boxes and paperwork but sold it when I moved countries. Biggest regret of my audio life. It was all perfect. Argh!

Now I'm setting up again, this time with the focus being on having the gear to play all the old formats I have including tons of CDs (a few thousand), some cassettes and maybe in future vinyl. I stumbled into a deal on some Bang & Olufsen speakers and then again on a mint condition, new looking, Beosound 9000. I couldn't say no either time on the price and as someone with physics and electronics degrees I'm not the typical audiophile when it comes to claiming all measurable differences are audible.

Currently debating if I can justify a Technics SL-1000 given I only own 3 records and don't really plan on buying a ton more. Would be nice to have though...

Anyway glad to say hello and feel free to ask me anything.

Cheers.

Greetings & Welcome to AC  MrSkelter   :thumb:  Not sure what the recommendations would be on the SL-1000, but vinyl is a special format which you obviously realize given your thoughts. I enjoy it, though many find it more trouble than it's worth, particularly with the convenience & quality available in today's formats. If you have questions or particular thoughts on the SL-1000 start a post in the Vinyl Circle  https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?board=32.0 , you'll get more input there. You don't need a ton of vinyl to enjoy it, a few special albums can be enough. Let us know how things go.  8)

Welcome to AudioCircle MrSkelter.

Technics SL-1000, that is really aiming for the top end of the direct drive turntables. That motor unit is used in a lot of top end direct drive turntables by a lot of different manufacturers.

If you have that many cassettes, it would be nice to find yourself a nice refurbished cassette deck as there are not that many good technicians out there and parts are a problem.
I have loads of cassette too, but I never moved away from the format hence I still have my Walkman and a Nakamichi tape deck.

Good luck with your hunt on setting up a new Hi-Fi system
