Thanks for this post! I recently bought a used pair of VR-4's and suspect the woofers are in trouble. Following with gratitude for sharing your hard work!

Edit: have no idea how that question mark got in there. Replaced with "!"

Hi Mike,

Have you made any more progress with your VR4s?  Inspired by your experience, I have 4 RS225-8 woofers on the way!

The cabinets were in pretty rough shape. I could have fixed them but I ended up moving, took the cabinets apart for trash and sold the parts off to people who could use them to restore their VR-4's.

It probably would have been a good 20-30 hours of work to restore them the rest of the way.

I know it took me a long time to get back but if you care to share your experience with the Dayton Woofers, that would be really neat.
