Head scratching issues with Roon vs Manic Moose
« on: 21 Feb 2025, 09:54 pm »
So with my BDP3 I have no problem jumping between regular MPD (Manic Moose) & Roon.  However, in my system the USB output to my DAC (currently Oppo 205) is the best sounding by quite a bit... but unfortunately the Roon connection will only work with the Digital Coax I also have set up (USB using Roon is completely silent for some odd reason).    MM "direct" works fine and sounds great through USB--although for some reason I get frequent audio drop outs when I try to play Qobuz 24/192 files.  Sure those are high resolution files but that's nothing that network shouldn't be able to handle--especially like 700 Mbps rate I have.  Yes I've changed out the cable to a cat6, factory reset the BDP3, and even removed all other wired connections except for the one to the Bryston--but it still continues with that high resolution playback. All other 24-bit resolution files (plus of course 16-bit Redbook) play through USB with no issue... It's only 192 that have problems.

Obviously I'll take the Roon connection through Coax because at least it's solid with no dropouts.   What I have a problem with is giving quite a bit of money each month to that hypocritical company known as Samsung with its questionable business practices.  But that's a whole other topic..

So I'm basically trapped both ways and can't figure it out.

Anybody have any idea for resolve on either technical issue?

Why are you using Roon? Is it for its interface or is it for it sonic value? Almost all reviews I've read state the BDP3 sounds best with Manic Moose rather than Roon. Check out below:
