Dishwashers

In 2020 I replaced our 17-year old GE Monogram dishwasher with a new top-of-the-line GE Cafe unit. It has been a disaster almost from the beginning. We've had a rubber elbow fail because it was installed up against a sharp piece of sheet metal, flooding the kitchen floor; a door sensor that refused to accept that the door was closed, and a floating seal between the sump pump and the drain pump that didn't really understand the definition of the word "seal" - again, flooding the kitchen floor. The wheels on the bottom rack regularly fell off and melted against the bottom heating element (which is apparently a thing, according to the internet), and we had to replace a bad turbidity sensor.
Finally, the bottom spray arm kept knocking against the heating element, which - for some reason - wouldn't stay inside its mounting clips.
The salesman at the store where we bought it said that there were a lot of QC problems during COVID...
I finally got sick of it and replaced it with a Bosch 100 Plus, which was on sale for $499. Install took me about 90 minutes, and that included wiring in a junction box with a connector for the Bosch's chassis plug. I don't know what will emerge over the next couple of years, but it seems like a well-conceived, well-made unit, and I'm hopeful...

I was all set to recommend you junk the GE model and replace it wih a Bosch model, but you beat me to it.  :thumb:

I have a Bosch dishwasher in my kitchen and three of four rental houses. When the remaining non-Bosch dishwasher fails, I will waste no time replacing it with a Bosch model.

Several years ago, I needed to replace my dishwasher, and guys on this forum suggested Bosch and that's what I bought. It works well and is super quiet, but once or twice a year, I get an E24 code which is a drain issue. I have to remove the front panel to get underneath the unit and soak up the standing water. We use our dishwasher maybe 3 times per week. Once this dishwasher goes bad, I'll consider reverting to the good old days of handwashing dishes. I'd probably save a lot of time and money.

I guess we should be counted among the fortunate.  We’ve been in house for 30 years and are 7 or 8 years into the second GE dishwasher.  Bosch would be my alternate goto.  I’ve had over engineered German motorcycles and elegantly designed, durable, and serviceable German vacuums that I appreciate.  I assume the basic Bosch would be a safe bet.

I put in a Bosch unit about 6 years ago after the old one (a GE) died.

Zero issues other than needing to clean the filter more than any other dishwasher prior.

Be aware that current generation Bosch dishwashers require the use of their cloud connected Home Connect app to access many basic features.

Despite my appreciation for the performance and quietness of my current older Bosch, this immediately removed them from consideration for all future purchases I might otherwise consider.

After reading this recent post, I contacted Bosch to find out what units didn't block features behind the Home Connect app.  Response:

All of our currently offered appliances have access to the home connect app. Our dishwasher brochure linked below would advise of the features which are only accessible via the app.

The next generation of Bosch Dishwashers.

Nope. Given this choice I’d do back to hand washing.

Get an ASKO dishwasher, period... The inventor of dishwashers.

My original ASKO, built in Sweden, lasted over 22+ years... most of the time running at least twice a day, with 4 kids...

My second ASKO, purchased 2 years ago, was built in eastern Europe, and has a 5 year parts & labor warranty... no cloud required!

Highly recommended! Also, the QUIETEST of ALL dishwashers... you don't know it's running, only by the small LED indicator light at the bottom...

My $0.02,
Pete

Thats because you affixed the High Powered Digital American power cord to it.

Reminds me of our first central AC unit we bought.  An Amana.  Issues with performance, electrical and overall reliability.  We finally got something better.  Similar to your situation we did our research and got a good replacement and was hopeful.  The retail store (not big box) associate where we bought both said the Amana always had quality problems.  I had to pause, gather myself and gave my retort.  "Nice, you're they guy who sold it to us."  Good luck with the new unit.
