Dave in Colorado - my intro

Glad I have been able to find this place.  I first knew about ACI about 1988, while living in Brainerd, MN.  I am not certain what my original speakers are called, but i still use them today.  I still remember assembling them, and using the "audio magic" paint for the insides of the boxes.  They sound fantastic still!!  Then around 1992 I ordered a set of Saturns and Sapphires.  Wow.  I fell in love real fast.  They blew me away.  Their imaging was amazing.

Then a few years passed.  And a few more.  And a few more after that.  The original foam that was glued to the outside of the speakers has long ago crumbled away.  They could use some TLC.  I have read through this forum, and found a thread on some "upgrades" to the Sapphires.  Interesting read.  To be honest, I am not sure how much I will end up doing.  However, after seeing the price of some comparable replacements, my heart skipped a few beats.  Wow.  Maybe I will take on the work for the upgrades.

So fast forward to now, living in Colorado, our current home does not have a great room for this set.  Plus, the wife is not a huge fan of a "big stereo", so I have been relegated to the garage.  OI have them set up with a few Adcom amps, and cast music from my computer to them.  Good enough for now.

I am convinced that all 4 pieces have survived this long because I have kept the original boxes intact, and have used them multiple times for all the moves that have gotten me to our current location.  That is another testimony to Mike and his attention to detail, on everything.  Including the boxes that he shipped the speakers in.

I look forward to reading through some more threads in the group.  Thank you for your time.

I got my Sapphire II either in '91 or '92.

The changes/upgrades back then were from the yellow Kevlar dome to a silver Titanium dome. Driver was from Focal und you could just swap the diaphragm. Then later on Mike offered an upgrade kit which went removing the Focal tweeter and replacing it with a Scan Speak tweeter, which also required changing the complete x-over.

Later on the whole housing changed and what changed driver and x-over wise I could not tell you.

I still have my Sapphire III with 2 Sub one with the Titan driver playing in my music room after 30 Plus years. Had to re-foam the 7 inch Focal driver many years ago.
